It’s time we reject The Pampered Princes of Political Power Proudly Pretending to be Christians
Today America is ruled by a combination of politicians and ministers who are what I refer to as the Pampered Princes of Political Power Proudly Pretending to be Christians. It is a garden of Ps and it is pitiful. Don’t believe me?
We see it daily on the news, where this politician or this minister looks into the camera and piously declares that , “we have to protect the morality of our young people” or “this law will stop the evil that is running rampant in our society”. There are multiple postings on social media where they strut like peacocks, proclaiming how pious they are. How they are trying to make sure that Americans live by Biblical principles. To that I say NONSENSE. They are trying to ensure that they have power and wealth. They are the modern-day Pharisees or the Sadducees, and they are hypocrites. Why on earth would I say something like that? Personally, and in my opinion, I believe that Jesus would not be all that happy about the actions of some of those who claim to be His followers. Why? Let’s see what Jesus had to say about people like the ones I’m talking about.
In the time of Jesus there were 2 very important groups who ruled Jewish society. Now I’m not bringing the Romans into this because even though Rome ruled the secular world of Palestine (yes it was called Palestine in those days), Jewish law and religion was controlled by the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
The Pharisees were a prominent Jewish religious sect that emerged around 150 BCE. They were known for their strict adherence to Jewish law, both written and oral, and played a significant role in religious and social life, particularly during the time of Jesus. They were also influential in politics, with some Pharisees holding positions on the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council. That would be much like some of our more controversial “Christian” pastors becoming members of Congress. Oh wait, there are in fact, Yes, in the most recent Congress (118th), there were five ordained ministers serving in Congress: three in the House and two in the Senate. This is according to a report on the membership of the 118th Congress.
The Sadducees remind me of the harder core of supposed Christian preachers who ignore the teachings of Jesus and focus on the what they find in the old testament that reinforces their own prejudices. Jesus often criticized the Sadducees for their lack of understanding of Scripture, and their reliance on the written law over the oral traditions. He warned them against their not thinking and only repeating, much like a parrot what they had heard or read.
There are three areas that I think we need to look at any of our leaders, both politically and spiritually who claim to be Christian and see if they are really following the teachings of Jesus. Do they have integrity? Do they acknowledge they’re not perfect? Do they worship the world or God?
Do they have integrity. We are told in James 1:22-27 that we have to be the same in private as we are in public. “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does. If anyone thinks himself to be religious yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless. THINK OF THE NAME CALLING OUR POLITICIAN ARE ENGAGED IN, HOW THEY OPENLY PREACH DISLIKE FOR THOSE WHO ARE DIFFERENT AND YET THEY STILL CLAIM THE ARE CHRISTIANS Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
The current leadership is truly lacking in Humility: They refuse to acknowledging our flaws rather than pretending perfection. In Luke 18:9–14 we find, “Now He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and viewed others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and began praying this in regard to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, crooked, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to raise his eyes toward heaven, but was beating his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’ I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other one; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” THIS IS HOW WE SHOULD BE, NOT ALL HIGH AND MIGHTY, MAKING A SHOW OUT OF GOING TO CHURCH, NOT STANDING UP AND MAKING SPEECHES ABOUT HOW PIOUS AND RIGHTEOUS WE ARE – GOD KNOWS WHAT’S IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS. HE’S NOT FOOLED BY THE CHARADE WE PUT ON FOR THE CAMERAS.
Grace and truth: Speaking truth with love and modeling Christ’s compassion (Matthew 6:16-24
Fasting; The True Treasure; Wealth “Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that your fasting will not be noticed by people but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. OK SO THAT DEALS WITH THE PIOUS HYPOCRITES THAT WE SEE ON TV AND MAKING SPEECHES, WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO PREACH THAT MONEY IS EVERYTHING, THAT GREED IS GOOD, THAT IT’S MORE IMPORTANT THAT THE RICH GET REWARDED THAN THE POOR HAVE FOOD OR HEALTHCARE. JESUS CONTINUES IN VERSES 19 – 24 WHAT THE ANSWER IS
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then, if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
SO WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN FOR US AS CHRISTIANS, IT MEANS WE HAVE TO ONCE AND FOR ALL REJECT THOSE WHO ARE LEADING US DOWN THE WRONG PATH. THOSE WHO ARE SELLING OUT THEIR SOULS FOR A TEMPORARY REWARD. WE NEED TO ONCE AND FOR ALL REJECT
